Sound Modifiers were designed to plug directly into the output of a guitar or bass guitar to give the player fingertip control of the sound, but they work just as well plugged into an electric keyboard or the output of any electronic accessory.

Each unit has a specific effect or function, but several of them may be combined by plugging one into another to produce more complex effects. Any musician, who wishes to use these units at the input of the amplifier, rather than at the instrument, need simply interchange two color-coded wires inside the box.

Made in the USA these are NOT like the ones made in the late 90s that where made overseas ! These are well made exact reproductions with new components !

These units are carefully hand-built to authentic 1975 Dan Armstrong specifications

Blue Clipper

An excellent fuzz-tone with incredible sustain.

Description: Unpleasant high-order harmonics are eliminated by a low-pass filter leaving only a full, rich, distorted sound. When the Clipper is switched on, the instrument's volume control adjusts the amount of distortion. The output level of the distorted signal is adjusted internally to balance the fuzz loudness with the normal output of any instrument. The Clipper produces a super-stinging fuzz effect when combined with a Green Ringer. Input Impedance is 110 k Ohms. Output Impedance is 3 k Ohms, and the Signal-to-Noise ratio is 82db.

Dimensions: All six units are built in a sturdy, attractive aluminum housing with only the finest quality components. Overall dimensions are 59 m.m. wide x 59 m.m. high x 70 m.m. deep, although the unit protrudes only 43 m.m. from the face of a guitar. Weight is only 4 1/2 ozs., including battery.

Power Source: Powered by a single 9 volt battery (included). For Recessed Output Jacks: Adaptors are available to facilitate use.

Red Ranger

A combination signal booster and tone modifier.

Description: It has a three position switch which allows the user to select a full-range level boost or to boost either the bass or treble range to change the tone of the instrument. In the "Full" position the Ranger provides 13 db of clean boost across the full frequency range; this can be very useful with inexpensive or low-output instruments in fattening up the sound or inducing amplifier distortion. In the "Treble" position the Ranger produces an additional 12 db (25 db total) of boost in the treble range, while in the "Bass" position it boosts the bass range a total of 22 db without holding back the treble. The "Bass" and "Treble" positions are similar to regular tone controls except that they operate by boosting the desired frequencies rather than cutting out the undesired ones. The Red Ranger also features a low 300 ohm Output Impedance in all three switch positions to eliminate signal loss and hum pick-up in long cables. Input Impedance is 110 k Ohms and the Signal-to-Noise ratio is 85 db.

Purple Peaker

An equalizer for guitar or keyboard which introduces one or two peaks into the frequency response at specially selected frequencies.

Description: It has a three position switch to select one, both, or neither of the two peaks. In the "1" position, the Peaker introduces a 12 db peak centered at 4000 Hz which gives the instrument more "presence" or "bite". In the "2" position it produces the same presence peak plus a 7 db peak at 200 Hz to give the instrument more bottom or "punch". In the "Off' position neither peak is produced, but the guitar's signal is still improved, since the Peaker's low impedance 200 ohm Output eliminates signal loss and hum pick-up, even with very long cables. The Purple Peaker makes weak-sounding instruments sound fuller, and full-sounding instruments sound super. It is also excellent for musicians who want to record themselves by plugging directly into a tape machine without going through an amp. The Purple Peaker has an Input Impedance of 100 k Ohms, and an excellent Signal-to-Noise ratio of 90 db.

Yellow Humper

An equalizer for guitars, bass guitars, and keyboards

Description: It is rather similar to the Purple Peaker, but was designed specifically with bass guitarists in mind. With the Humper, the musician can select a single 7 db peak or hump in the frequency response centered at 100 Hz to give his instrument a very solid bottom range in the" 1 " switch position. If he selects "2" 'he will get the same low end peak plus a 10 db peak at 2000 Hz to enhance his overtones and presence. Like the Purple Peaker, the Yellow Humper improves the signal even in the "Off' switch position due to its low 200 Output Impedance. The Yellow Humper was designed to let any bass. and many keyboards sound more powerful without becoming rumblv or thumpy. Like the Peaker. it is excel1ent for use in recording. The Humper's input impedance is 100 k Ohms, and its Signal-to-Noise ratio is a very quiet 92 db.

Green Ringer

A very interesting and unique type of distortion device which produces ring modulation type effects.

Description: If a single note is played into the Ringer it will produce a second tone one octave above the original note. but if two notes are played into it, it will produce sum and different tones just like a ring modulator. Depending on the musical interval between the two notes, the additional tones the Ringer produces will be harmonically related to the original notes (such as sub octaves) or dissonant. The Ringer gives the musician much better control over the effect produced than a conventional ring modulator, since he is no longer playing against an arbitrary modulator frequency. The Ringer features an Input Impedance of 100 k Ohms. The Ringer has an Output Impedance of 500 ohms, and a Signal-to-Noise ratio of 86 db.

Orange Squeezer

A signal compressor which provides some 30 db of clean (undistorted) sustain.

Description: Basically, it amplifies quieter signals more than loud ones, so that there is not as much difference between the loud and soft notes. This can be used to "tighten up" the sound of an instrument or to let a note or chord "ring out" or sustain several times longer than it would normally. The Orange Squeezer compresses the dynamics of the music or of the individual notes without adversely affecting the attack of the note and without adding any significant noise or distortion to the signal. An internal adjustment lets the user adjust the Output level to suit his instrument and his playing style, while the compression threshold is pre-set at the factory. Input Impedance is 80 k Ohms. Output Impedance is 1800 ohms, and the Signal/Noise ratio is a quiet 86 db.

Black Reaper

This unit modifies the mid range frequency by decreasing the mid-range level.

Description: This is a simple to use unit that can remove higher volume mid range frequencies to give richer full range level out from the instrument. Input Impedance is 80 k Ohms. Output Impedance is 1800 ohms, and the Signal/Noise ratio is a quiet 86 db. Made with a hand wound open choke coil designed by Kent Armstrong (Kent Armstrong Pickups), this is an ideal box for both amateur and professional musicians.

Power Source: This unit does not need a battery. For Recessed Output Jacks: The Black Reaper is available in extended plug version to facilitate use.
